White Bouncy Castle

From 11th to 28th July, come and jump and create your own choreography within this 45 metre inflatable castle of! White Bouncy Castle is a choreographic installation designed by the dancers and choreographers William Forsythe and Dana Caspersen and forms part of the programming of the Festival Grec of Barcelona.

Room-by-room tours and creation workshops

From 2nd to 31st July and from 3rd to 10th September we have prepared activities to do in a group so as to discover the museum’s collection:

  • Sound and colour: A visit aimed at kids between 4 and 6 years old in which the room of Romanesque art will receive the puppet Jeroni with whom we will sing a song.
  • Fairies and Elves’ Dances: Visit and workshop of corporal expression for 4 to 7 year olds in which we will discover representations of fairy tales, we will find out about the characteristics, the symbolism and the connections with nature.
  • Stories in relief: We will discover how sculptors work and where they get their inspiration from.  We will use our body and the rhythm of the music and we will play to experiment.  Thought up for kids between 5 and 8 years old.
  • The Dance of the Bestiary: Visit and workshop of corporal expression for 6 to 10 year olds in which we will dance with a whole lot of fantastic animals.
  • Portrait and self-portrait: Converse in the rooms and workshop of creation thought up for 12 to 16 year olds.

Temporary exhibitions and permanent collection

Oriol Maspons, the useful photography / 1949-1995

First major retrospective exhibition about the work of the Barcelona photographer Oriol Maspons that allows us to do a tour over more than four decades of intense activity in the fields of reportage, portrait, fashion and publicity.

A tour of the work of Antoni Fabrés i Costa, sculptor and painter, who was very successful during his lifetime, but with the inexorable passing of time, and with the different historical generations, has become forgotten.

El Víbora. Comix countercultural

A homage to the magazine El Víbora and its authors, when celebrating 40 years since the publication of the first issue of this legendary magazine of comixwhich left its mark on various generations during the 1980s and 1990s.  You can see it until 29th September!

Collection of the museum

The museum counts on the most important collection of Catalan art in the world, from medieval art until the present day.  In the Museu Nacional you can see the best collection of Romanesque mural painting  and the most representative artists from Catalan Modernism, such as Gaudí or Casas. The Gothic Art, the new presentation of Renaissance and baroque and the collection of photography complete the expositive tour.

Pneumotòrax. A perforation in the lung-archive of the Museu Nacional

The artist and educator Jordi Ferreiro has investigated the long relationship that education has with the museum based on the documentation stored in our archive.

Pneumotòrax is presented in different spaces of the museum as a leak of all those documents, materials and experiences between everything artistic and educational from 1945 to 2000 and that highlight the fundamental role of Catalonia as a driving force in pedagogical renewal.

Rooftop-Viewpoint

From the terraces-viewpoint from the rooftops of the Palau Nacional you will be able to discover a spectacular panoramic view of the city: a 360º view and of the main buildings and monuments that make up the Barcelona skyline.

Treasure hunt and self-guided tours of the rooms of the collection

Free of charge, you will be able to do 3 self-guided tours of the museum’s rooms: The theft  of the bestiary, A crime was painted, for over seven year olds; and Artistic crimes: murder in the chamber aimed at the adult public.

Maspons’ Night

Tuesday 3rd September is Maspons’ Night: Open doors in the exhibition Maspons and a jazz concert given by Gabriel Amargant Quartet, from the Taller de Músics (Musicians’ Workshop) with a repertoire of jazz standards from the 1950s and 1960s.  

Moreover there will be a gastronomic offer, and an open-air projection of the film Visages Villages (2017), directed by Agnès Vardà and JR.
