During these festive days, come to the museum! We have lots of activities for all audiences. You can also download the tale of Little Red Riding Hood to read it or paint it with the family. Do you feel like doing so?
A Christmas of riddles, concert given by the Escola Coral de l’Orfeó Català
On 16 December, the museum will start off the Christmas festivities with this free-of-charge family concert performed by more than 100 singers from the 3 youngest choirs of the Escola Coral de l’Orfeó Català: the Cor Petits, the Cor Mitjans and the Cor Infantil.
The repertoire will combine songs that will take us to the magic world of Christmas and Christmas riddles so as to find out the solution while we listen!
Family Christmas workshop: Stampede
A workshop of engraving and printing inspired by the Romanesque bestiary led by the Vostock team.
The smallest ones will discover the creative potential of printing based on stamps with animal parts and we will invite the oldest ones to experiment with engraving in relief and to make their own stamp.
The workshop will take place on 16, 23, 27, 28, 29 and 30 December 2018; 2, 3, 4 and 5 January 2019. It is an activity thought up for children over three years old.
The Happy Prince show, by Oscar Wilde
On 27 December we will tell the story of a very special sculpture. The comedians of La Baldufa will present to us their family show The Happy Prince based on one of the most popular tales of Oscar Wilde.
A lesson in humanity, love and generosity for big and small, in a multi-disciplinary show that combines conceptual theatre, shadow games, projections and poetry.
It is a show recommended for children of 6 years old and more.
Christmas artistic adventures
On 22 and 29 December 2018 and 5 January 2019, we have prepared some different, participatory and fun guided visits. These will be dynamic visits in the style of “choose your own adventure” following the theme of Christmas and art for the whole family.
It will therefore be presented as a game in which the visitors will choose a route to follow, led by two art historians. With the same starting point, throughout their route they will decide on their own artistic adventure, choosing some topics over others and branching off the way.
Activity free of charge, with enrolment required, given by Natàlia Esquinas and Martí Casas, art historians.
Temporary exhibitions and permanent collection
LIBERXINA, Pop and new artistic behaviour, 1966-1971
Until 22 April 2019, you can visit the exhibition LIBERXINA, Pop and new artistic behaviour, 1966-1971 in which artistic proposals are exhibited that were produced in Catalonia during the second half of the nineteen sixties.
These works, which share the ideals of generational renewal and revolution that broke out at the same time in various international nucleuses, are being exhibited in public coinciding with the 50th anniversary of May 1968.
Museum’s collection
The museum counts on the most important collection of Catalan art in the world, from medieval art until the present day. In the Museu Nacional you can see the best collection of Romanesque mural painting and the most representative artists of Catalan Modernism, such as Gaudí or Casas. The collection of Gothic art and of photography complete the expositive tour.
This year, 2018, we have renewed the rooms of the collection of Renaissance and baroque, with a new expositive narrative which has been created based on the works, and around 300 works, and 22 pieces never exhibited before.
