The last year and a half has been very a very difficult time;
many people have died and many companies
and businesses have closed down.
Solidarity campaigns have been no exception in this worldwide crisis
and have also been seriously affected.
WHAT SOLIDARITY CAMPAIGNS DOES THE MUSEUM’S STAFF HABITUALLY ORGANIZE?
. The raffling of a ham and a hamper for Christmas to raise money
for an NGO chosen by a vote among the entire staff.
Raffle December 2019 (€219 raised for the NGO Baixem al carrer in the Sants-Montjuïc district).
. The Solidarity Market in which members of staff sell the things
they no longer use and give the money to an NGO
chosen by a vote among the whole staff.
Solidarity Market November-December 2019 (€1,369 raised for the NGO Baixem al carrer in the Sants-Montjuïc district)
. El Museu en Família, a party in which the staff can share
an afternoon at the museum in the company of their families.
During the party there are leisure activities,
such as visits to different parts of the museum,
inflatables for the youngest ones
or the traditional competition to judge the best cakes,
which are later served as an afternoon treat for everyone present.

. Campaign Taps per a una nova vida (Bottle Caps for a New Life)
in collaboration with the Fundación Seur.
Because of Covid-19, during the last year and a half
this is the only campaign that we have been able to implement.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF TAPS PER A UNA NOVA VIDA?
. Helping children in poor health who need medical treatment
or orthopaedic devices that the public health system
does not cover and which their family cannot afford.
. Looking after the environment by recycling plastic bottle caps,
preventing them from ending up in the general waste bin.
HOW DOES THIS CAMPAIGN WORK?
1. Plastic caps are collected in two large cardboard boxes:
. One next to the drinks machines on the ground floor where the offices are.
. The other in the museum staff dining room.
2. When the container is full, we call Fundación Seur, which comes to collect them and takes them to a recycling company.
3. The money earned by recycling the caps
is given directly to the families of these children.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE RESULT OF TAPS PER A UNA NOVA VIDA?
In 2020, 55 kilos of plastic bottle caps were collected at the museum.
Since this campaign started in August 2017, 240 kilos of caps have been collected.
Fundación Seur has helped 171 boys and girls with nearly €1,200,000 raised
by the recycling of 6,542 tons of caps,
which has prevented the emission of 8,198 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
WHAT CAMPAIGNS ARE WE PREPARING FOR THIS YEAR?
Now that a lot of people have been vaccinated and the pandemic
is a bit more controlled, the museum staff
are looking forward to organizing solidarity campaigns again.
On the one hand, we want to continue with the campaigns that we were already doing
before Covid-19, provided the health situation allows us to.
On the other, we are thinking about a new solidarity action
in which the museum staff will be fully involved,
making use of everyone’s particular personal skills to help those in need.
Keep an eye out because soon there will be an entry in this blog
to explain this new campaign to you in greater detail.
You are sure to be surprised!
