This is confirmed by the recent admission to the Museu Nacional of a collection comprising nearly 68 crates of autochrome glass plates and three boxes of negatives, measuring 6 x 13 cm. Port of Barcelona, c. 1909 \/ Gaspar Homar, Mallorca, c. 1909, Museu Nacional d&#8217;Art de Catalunya<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The donation of Gaspar Homar\u2019s photographic material to the Museu Nacional<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During preparations for the Gaspar Homar exhibition <strong>this photographic<\/strong> <strong>material was found <\/strong>in a dusty wardrobein his summer residence in Montgat, where the furniture maker spent much of the last period of his life. Years later, his grandson has donated it to the museum. Gaspar Homar was attracted by this new colour technique although he did not always master the technical process. To capture colour, this process made use of glass plates with microscopic particles of potato starch on the base of black-and-white film. It was the first time that this new technique had been presented, a novelty that, we must remember, was embraced by the great photographers of the time, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_Steichen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steichen<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alfred_Stieglitz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stieglitz<\/a>, the photographers of the National Geographic Society, scientists like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Santiago_Ram%C3%B3n_y_Cajal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ramon y Cajal<\/a> around 1911, the writer <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leonid_Andreyev\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Leonid Andreiev<\/a> and, above all, the philanthropist <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Albert_Kahn_(banker)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Albert Kahn<\/a>. After 1909 <strong>Kahn got together a team of photographers who travelled the world taking colour photographs <\/strong>and he created <a href=\"http:\/\/collections.albert-kahn.hauts-de-seine.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Archives de la Plan\u00e8te<\/a>, and he also obtained permission to immortalize the Great War in Europe. Remember that <strong>Homar was one of the actors who took part, in the front line, in the discovery and the valorization of medieval heritage<\/strong>. He opened an antiques shop in Carrer de la Palla and through his hands passed, among others, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museunacional.cat\/en\/colleccio\/altar-frontal-avia\/anonim\/015784-000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">altar frontal from Avi\u00e0<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museunacional.cat\/en\/colleccio\/altar-frontal-esterri-de-cardos\/anonim-catalunya-taller-de-la-seu-durgell-del-1200\/015889-000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">altar frontal from Ginestarre de Card\u00f3s<\/a>, Coptic fabrics, paintings and ceramic pieces that now enrich the collections of museums, from the Cloisters in New York to the Museu Nacional d\u2019Art de Catalunya.
