Quite short sentences, 3 lines maximum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. Large typescript (12 to 14 point)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. Black letters on a white background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. Wide margins and spaces between the lines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. Short paragraphs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. Words are not underlined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. Italics are not used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. Bold is used to highlight the text. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. It is better to print on matt, opaque, white paper. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. It does not use pictures as the background for text. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. It avoids capital letters because they are more difficult to read. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. It does not justify the text to the right, so that readers will not get lost when they change lines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. Expressions are not split between two lines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. It uses simple words. Complicated ones are explained at the bottom of the page, or with an explanatory box at the side, or a picture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. Paragraphs are separated by blanks before and after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. Simple punctuation marks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. One main idea per sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. It uses active forms of the verb rather than passives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. It prefers the indicative over the subjunctive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. There are no double negatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHY SHOULD MUSEUMS USE EASY-TO-READ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Everyone has a right to culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The <strong>audio descriptions<\/strong> and<strong> sign language guides<\/strong> that many museums use enable people with visual and hearing disabilities to enjoy art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">But some people still find it difficult (the elderly, people learning to read and write, migrants, people with intellectual disabilities, people with learning difficulties,\nchildren).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Museums are still lagging\nbehind when we talk about Easy-to-Read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>There\u2019s a long way to go.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">If we want museums\nto be truly inclusive\nthey have to reach everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHAT IS THE MUSEU NACIONAL D\u2019ART DE CATALUNYA DOING?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">One of its main strategic\nobjectives is accessibility, inclusion and sustainability<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It has an audio description and sign language guide\nservice to make art more accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">But it wishes to take a step further and raise\nstaff awareness. It has organized several Easy-to-Read courses for its staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>This article for the blog is the result of that training <\/strong>and the first of many different Easy-to-Read steps that the museum wants to take to make art easily accessible to everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHICH MUSEUMS USE EASY-TO-READ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cccb.org\/en\">Centre de Cultura Contempor\u00e0nia de Barcelona <\/a><\/strong>(Barcelona): CCCB&#8217;s exhibitions have a room guide in Easy-to Read. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/museuciencies.cat\/en\/\">Museu de Ci\u00e8ncies Naturals de Barcelona<\/a><\/strong> (Barcelona): All the information for the exhibition <em>Som natura <\/em>is Easy-to-Read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/museuciencies.cat\/en\/the-nat\/venues\/botanical-garden-of-barcelona\/\">Botanical Gardens<\/a> <\/strong>(Barcelona): The texts on the visit are adapted to Easy-to-Read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barcelona.cat\/museu-etnologic-culturesmon\/\">Museu Etnol\u00f2gic and Cultures del M\u00f3n<\/a> <\/strong>(Barcelona): It has adapted the contents through the accessible application \u2018Barcelona without barriers\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.museuemporda.org\/\">Museu de l\u2019Empord\u00e0<\/a> <\/strong>(Figueres): It adapted the contents of the exhibition <em>Els Dal\u00ed de Figueres<\/em> to Easy-to-Read.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.museothyssen.org\/en\">Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza<\/a><\/strong> (Madrid): It has produced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museothyssen.org\/conectathyssen\/publicaciones-digitales\/publicacion-museo-facil\"><em>Easy Museum<\/em> <\/a>guide, the first Easy-to-Read guide to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/Museo-f\u00e1cil-.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/Museo-f\u00e1cil-.png\" alt=\"Publicaci\u00f3 Museo F\u00e1cil.
