We have turned everything round in the museum so as to explain a new narrative and to provide a new way of looking at the collection. These have been six vibrant and hectic months to carry out the project. A project that the whole of the museum staff has worked on, in collaboration with other external professionals. With a greater presence of elements that will help you to understand the social, historic and artistic context, and <strong>highlight the international connections<\/strong> of the artists and movements <strong>Barcelona and Catalonia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0 This new presentation of the collection for the 19th and 20th centuries, <strong>takes us as far as the 1950s for the first time<\/strong>, including the movement <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dau_al_Set\" target=\"_blank\">Dau al Set<\/a>. A tour in sections such as portraits and self-portraits, learning in the academy and studio, the bohemian world, the bourgeoisie, and Orientalism.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0 <strong>Modernism and Gaud\u00ed find their home in the Museu Nacional. <\/strong>Our museum becomes the centre of reference for Modernism with the incorporation of a large space dedicated to the movement. A permanent new space has been created dedicated to Gaud\u00ed with more than 35 original works that will constitute the biggest permanent exhibition of the artist. Agreements with the Sagrada Fam\u00edlia, the Jujol archive and other collections have allowed the large contribution of original works and the start of a new line of research work and international diffusion of Gaud\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0 <strong>Photography becomes an essential part of the museographic discourse. <\/strong>More than 290 photographs are exhibited covering all the periods, starting with the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Daguerreotype\" target=\"_blank\">daguerreotypes<\/a> from the nineteenth century until the present day.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spanish_Civil_War\" target=\"_blank\">Civil War<\/a> art has its own space: <\/strong>traditional arts &#8211; painting, sculpture, prints, and the new media &#8211; illustrated publications, posters, photography, photomontage, and cinema, are joined together in a mobilisation of propaganda and the commitment of the artists in the fight against fascism.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1668\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1668\" class=\"wp-image-1668 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/4.jpg 620w, https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1668\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The director of the museum, Pepe Serra, and the chief curator, Juanjo Lahuerta, with the exhibition assemblers.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A few weeks ago the chief curator explained in this blog the background of the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/en\/renewal-collection-new-formats-new-narrative\/\" target=\"_blank\">new formats and new narratives in the Modern Art collection<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some facts and figures regarding the renovation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u25a0 4,000 m<sup>2<\/sup> of exhibition<br \/>\n\u25a0 2,000 works have been moved during the process, among works that have changed places, new acquisitions, works which have come out of the storage rooms, and works which have returned<br \/>\n\u25a0 more than 1,350 works exhibited. More than:<br \/>\n300 paintings<br \/>\n290 photographs<br \/>\n220 pieces of decorative arts<br \/>\n200 drawings<br \/>\n105 sculptures<br \/>\n75 posters<br \/>\n60 numismatic pieces<br \/>\n50 prints<br \/>\n4 films<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0 900 works have left the storage rooms (60% of the works have come out for the first time or had only done so on specific occasions for temporary exhibitions)<br \/>\n\u25a0 280 works restored<br \/>\n\u25a0 260 artists<br \/>\n\u25a0 4 sections (distributed in 31 subdivisions) and 1 epilogue<br \/>\n\u25a0 880 light projectors (spotlights)<br \/>\n\u25a0 13,884 m<sup>2 <\/sup>of total area painted<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1669\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1669\" class=\"wp-image-1669 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/5.jpg 620w, https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/5-300x203.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1669\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The restoration team intervening in a work in the galleries.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As often happens with major projects, on the way some things have been dropped, either because of the schedule or due to the budget, such as managing to obtain more artworks, renewing frames of the collection or doing another reform of the spaces. For the near future we have in preparation the elaboration of interpretative elements such as the new museum guide in paper, new audio-guides or mobile apps.
