Some curiosities about the artist"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>Isabel Fabregat<\/h6>\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museunacional.cat\/en\/ramon-pichot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">exhibition Ramon Pichot<\/a>, an important painter for Catalan art at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, has been opened. For the first time, his artistic trajectory is presented to the public. Apart from him, there are two other painters with the same surname. Which of them is the protagonist of the exhibition? It is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ramon_Pichot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ramon Pichot Giron\u00e8s<\/a>, friend of Santiago Rusi\u00f1ol and Pablo Picasso, member of the <em>Colla del Safr\u00e0<\/em> (a group of artists from Barcelona) and husband of Germaine, muse of artists. Photo: Pichot Family Archive<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Bohemian life in Montmartre: Picasso, Pichot and Germaine<\/h3>\n<p>Like many Catalan artists, he fulfilled his dream of travelling to Paris, but unlike many others, he stayed there to live. During the first years of the 20th century, <strong>he shared the Parisian bohemian life with his friend<\/strong><strong> Pablo Picasso. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are various moments worth highlighting: they exhibited together in the Galerie Berthe Weill and they decorated the walls of the bar-cabaret Le Zut. Pichot kept the canvasses of his friend when the artist from Malaga left Paris in 1903. He attended the homage to Henri Rousseau <em>le Douannier<\/em> which Picasso organised in the Bateau Lavoir. Picasso visited Pichot in Cadaqu\u00e9s in 1910, etc. Even though over the years they became distanced, Picasso affirmed that the work <em>The three dancers<\/em> that he painted in 1925, when Pichot died \u2013and that represented, from right to left,\u00a0 Pichot, Casagemas in the centre crucified and Germaine\u2013, should have been entitled <em>The death of Pichot<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Germaine, the name by which the young French girl Laure Gargallo was known, was a muse of artists: lover of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museunacional.cat\/en\/casagemas-artist-beneath-myth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carles Casagemas<\/a>, who tried to kill her and afterwards committed suicide; and also of Pablo Picasso, who portrayed her on various occasions.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11245\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/Germaine.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11245\" class=\"wp-image-11245\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/Germaine.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/Germaine.jpg 1182w, https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/Germaine-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/Germaine-768x577.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/Germaine-1024x769.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11245\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ramon Pichot, <em>Germaine<\/em>, c.1900. Artur Ramon Collection<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In February 1908 she married Ramon Pichot, as I was able to discover by consulting his <em>D\u00e9claration de Succession<\/em> in the Archives of Paris and by checking it in the city council archives of the XVIe <em>arrondissement<\/em>, the Parisian neighbourhood where the Pichot family lived at that time.<\/p>\n<p>During the research about the artist, I was also able to find the grave of Ramon and Germaine in the cemetery of Saint-Vincent a Montmartre thanks to the help of Maria Thomas, a neighbour of Montmartre, curiously originally from Barcelona. I got to know her through a cultural institution of the neighbourhood where I had gone to do some research following the trail of Pichot. She explained to me that she had known one of the sisters of Germaine and her testimony provided me with new and valuable research data.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/PICHOT-080.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11270\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/PICHOT-080.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/PICHOT-080.jpg 3000w, https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/PICHOT-080-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/PICHOT-080-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.museunacional.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/PICHOT-080-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>In the correspondence of Eug\u00e8ne Carri\u00e8re<\/h3>\n<p>In Paris, Pichot became involved in the artistic circles of the French capital. Following the trail of the artist, I was able to find out, in the <em>Biblioth\u00e8que centrale des mus\u00e9es nationaux<\/em> of Paris, how the influential patron Aline M\u00e9nard-Dorian helped Pichot to go ahead with his artistic career. In the correspondence between Mme. Surely for this reason they decided to place them in this room.<\/p>\n<p>One of the pieces presented was <em>Sardana (danse populaire) <\/em>that for the moment is only known through publications in black and white and that formed part of the important collection of Julius Stern.<\/p>\n<h3><em>La Maison Rose<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Pichot lived his last years in the Maison Rose, a house situated on the corner of the <em>Rue des Saules<\/em> and the Rue <em>Abrevoir <\/em>in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Montmartre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">neighbourhood of Montmartre<\/a>, very close to the vineyards of <em>Clos Montmartre<\/em> and the famous cabaret of the <em>Lapin Agile<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Ramon Pichot died in the Maison Rose in 1925 suffering from tuberculosis.
